starting points

been collecting parts to convert a 64 polara 440 from its 318 to a 440. -suspension and disc brakes done.
-have a rebuilt 727 out of a 65 coronet with driveshaft/slip yoke (pushbutton)
ordered from schumachers
headers
mini starter
engine mounts
tranny mount

bought a low mileage 440 out of running imperial i.e. good compression, no ticks, checked with a bore scope .

so here is my questions...
i have a little less than $1000 left to spend on this engine swap. where best to spend it?
should mention the 318 though it did not have headers ,after the stock manafold it had dual 2 1/2 pipes with smitty's and cut outs which i plan on using.
where would you go with a grand on a stock engine?

Hold the . Get it in AS IS and make it roll first. You may have issues that force you to spend that money in a non planned way. Carb could be bad, she may need valve seals, replumb fuel, tune the carb, will your radiator cool it, etc...

Once she is in and rolls, I would add a decent dual plane intake and she how you like what you got.

Spend the . RPM Performer intake with a new flat tappet hydrualic cam around 480-484 lift with new lifters. pushrods and the required springs. That way you can still use the stock valve train.

I agree with the parts recommendations also with holding off as they can be added with the engine in the car. There is always the unexpected and too many guys run out of money before they get rolling.

The one thing I would do with it out is remove the oil pan and weld in acceleration, deceleration baffles and possibly deepen. This is a wise purchase at this time if you can't fabricate yourself as changing this later with engine in the car will be much more difficult. Nice pose, like you bagged the prized deer or fish.
