Did the bolt itself strip or did the threads in the head strip?

I think the intake bolts are a 3/8" diameter but coule be mistaken.

Hi
The heli coil kit contains a special heli coil tap. The heli coil tap will tap the hole over size for the heli coil insert that will bring the thread back to the original size. The stripped hole may have to be re drilled first. All the instructions should be included in the kit.
Depending on which hole got stripped you may have to remove the valve cover and bolck the back of the hole so no metal cuttings fall in your motor.
Good luck

Make sure it is not the bolt that is bad. If not, then take good look at the threads in the head. You can clean up the original threads by carefully running a tap in them and then blow out the hole with air. Then try running a new bolt in it to see if it tightens. If you still need a helicoil, get one sized for the original bolt(I'm thinking 3/8 course). The kit will come with a drill bit sized for the helicoil. When you use the drill make sure you don't go any deeper than the original hole. The kit will come with a special tap, coils and instructions. Its not too difficult, make sure you use plenty of cutting oil when drilling and tapping and clean out the hole after each step. Cover everything to keep the metal shavings out.

Hey Lifted! Had the same issue when installing an Eddy intake on my 383! You got a BB, or SB? Sometimes this is caused by using the valley pan AND the paper gaskets included in the kit. The pan itself, with Permatex Hylomar sealant usually works best. The heli-coil kit saved my ***. Be sure to pack rags under the hole to catch chips. A magnet in the rags helps too! Pack grease in the flutes of the tap to catch more chips. Turn it in 1/2 turn at a time, and back-up 1/4 turn to clear chips, then repeat till done. It works as advertised.

Thread locker is always a good idea on helicoils. Also make sure to blow out the hole really good, I usually take a can of break cleaner with the hose on it stick the hose in the hole (SAFETY GLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and blow all the crap out then hit it with air to dry it out. I also put a very very small amount of motor oil on threads of bolts when running them in, especially if its steel bolt into an aluminum head prevents galling and messing up the treads again, Or with ARP use the stuff that comes with their kit.
