Timing chain tensioner

Hi, thanks for welcoming me.

I ran this mopar timing chain tensioner/cam thrust plate for about 2000 miles.

A .007" groove wore in the cam thrust location.

After further inspection I discovered that this part is stamped and the metal is soft.

The original style thrust plates without the tensioner are hardened and ground flat.

Has any one else run into this problem?

I dont think I would use one again.

That's the purpose of it. I should wear some as time goes by. The factory thrust plate would have a wear pattern on it also. I have heard good and bad about those tensioners. I would use a factory type thrust plate. Your distributor gear could be worn also.

It was in my dart with a stroked 340.

I have seen wear marks before, but never a worn groove.

The cam and gear were new.

I ran a file across it and it cut pretty easy. The file would not cut the original style thrust plate.

Get rid of it.

If memory serves me correctly there was a TSB about these being used to quiet timing chain noise or rattle when redoing the chain in 5.2 and 5.9 magnums. I see them on Jeeps, Rams etc... I may have one in the shop.

I would dump yours too. It sounds like an aftermarket reproduction and not well made. I see color transfer from heat when taking these off but never a groove.
