tunnel ram setup

im going to be building a mild 383 stroker. i was thinking about stroking to 431 or 450cid. im getting a free tunnel ram, and i was curious about what cfm carbs to use. i dont really have much experience with tunnel rams, so any advice on 383 stroker kits and tunnel ram setups would be great.

The tunnel ram is too much for a mild 383 stroker. More torque and HP on the bottom end with a single plane in my opinion.

383 -

Tunnel rams has two purposes. High end (high rpm) performance and a visual "wow factor". Street drive-ability, not so much.

So it kinda depends on what you're doing with the car.

I like tunnel rams, going to run one on my project. But I am going for the wow factor. You are better off with a single if you want all out performance. The free tunnel ram is the least of the cost.. I would run to holley 450's with mechanical secondaries with out the rear pumps. They are made for a tunnel ram. Any vacuum secondary carb is useless on a t-ram

NOT true.

I suppose it depends on the engine and cam, but I ran a pair of 600 vac sec Holleys years ago, and they worked just fine. I've seen (and so have you) AFBs on a TR. This was a 440, mechanical cam, 10.5:1, approx .5 lift x 300 duration. The damn thing just hauled. It was a bit numb right off idle with either the TR orthe then new Torker and an 800 DP.

The old carters are the only vacuum carbs I have ever seen work ok on a t-ram. Never had any luck with a holley vacuum carb. Power brakes barley work with a big cam how can it ever pull two vacuum carbs open on a T-ram.

Ps got a pair of holley 600 vacuums and a 3 eyed monster scoop I will let go cheap in interested.
