Vacuum pump

Any suggestions? Prefer electric. I need a vacuum pump to run my brake booster. Do I need to tie it into my valve covers to give the motor some vacuum as well?

I'm confused.

I'm running a 6-71 blower on my stroked 383.

You need to remove the booster, Then install the reinforcement plate that goes on the engine side for manual brakes. Then you need a longer rod for the manual master to the peddle It's an easy swap just awkward working under the dash

There is Hydratech that makes a brake assist unit that uses power steering fluid pressure. There are some who use a newer Mustang vac unit.

If you search for pumps there are tons of them out there, electric and belt driven.

The term is hydroboost, and has been used on Chev trucks since the 70's That is certainly an option.

Thanks for replies. I have been researching plenty, and every blower motor I have read about states that this is an issue. So it got me thinking. I would think that there would be sufficient vacuum between carbs and blower, but its contrary to what I was reading so I wanted to ask.

just my idea. if there is some vacuum between the blower and carbs , a air tank and a check valve between the two to hold the vacuum in the tank, might work. that way when the carbs open the vacuum under the carbs goes a way, but the tank holds vacuum cause the check valve stops the vacuum from going out through the blower top.

To 440, it's not a "term" it is the name of the company.

It's just best to have manual brakes and not take a chance. Not say you cant have power brakes because you can, It's just a lot of work. I think.

As for the blower / engine... Make sure when you build your motor to use all the MFG specs for bore clearance's and ring gaps for those type of pistons.

As for your crankcase ventilation... (For Me) I think the header Vac kit works best. and it's simple.

Just my 2 cents
