valve cover

Hey everyone, just put a new set of valvecover gaskets on. The viton. Ones as I had a leak. I've yanked the valvecovers a few times the past week or so as the motor is fresh and adjustments to be made. Anyways I have a leak from one of the bolt holes and one from the middle of the valve cover. Im thinking the cheapo valvecovers are just ed from the two seasons? Too much distortion. What do you guys think about new valvecovers? Good brands? Viton gaskets ok?

I've always like these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-5007611/?rtype=10

As for a gasket, cork does pretty well but will crack over time. Rubber is nice and seals better I feel. There are some out there that are reusable. If you are still making adjustments and need to keep removing the valve covers, I would get a set of these.

Get the VC gaskets in the Mopar Performance catalog silicon with a metal insert !!!!
Will last thru removals and will not leak. Those are great valve covers, I had them on a 360

I'll agree with 78D200. I use M/T almost always, and they don't distort, seal up nice and flat, and it takes a LOT of removal before you destroy a gasket with them. They don't have to be M/T's, just a nice cast aluminum valve cover, and don't torque them too far.

I Love those M/T's, but I am cheap, so I reuse the steel covers and just use a hammer to carefully keep the sealing edge flat. Most leaks are from the bolt holes, as you mentioned, getting pushed down from overtighting. Just tap 'em flat with a ball peen hammer. Maybe try to find some valve cover bolts that have an elongated washer to spread the load more. Junk yard have several types to choose from and they are cheap.
The reusable gaskets mentioned are a better choice for mulitple use. I never use
"silly-cone" Always cork. That's just me tho'. Clean and flat mating surface is a must. If your not cheap like me, by all means put on the M/T's. They look sweet. You didn't mention what motor. Big Blocks are famous for cooking gaskets because the exhaust manifold is so close to the gasket serface. A good gasket set will go a long way.
