1978 power wagon front differential
1978 power wagon front differential
Hello I’m new here. I own a 78 power wagon. I am needing to replace broken ring and pinion on front axle. Currently full time 4x4.
I’m wondering if it makes sense to try and convert to locking hubs while I’m doing the axle?
if it’s even possible? And how much more work is involved?
The truck has a 4 speed tranny and the 360 motor.

As long as it's a standard shift you can do it. The automatics had a viscous drive transfer case that transferred power to the front wheels when needed. Kind of like what the Grand Cherokees have today. Manual shift you could install aftermarket locking assembly. Easy enough to do.
