1978 Power Wagon shifting/transmission questions
Hello all. I recently bought a 1978 dodge power wagon (W100) with a nicely built 360 and an NP 203 Transfer case (It has a part time kit). I don't know what transmission is in it, but I know that it has a Dana 44 in the front with a 3.54 ratio (according to the tag). In the back I'm fairly confident that it's a Chrysler 9.25 that's a 3.55. The engine is a mildly built 360 with a 750 Ultra XP Carb and edelbrock performer intake.
The problem is, the transmission shifts at like 15mph out of first and it seems that only shifts to one more gear (I might be wrong- haven't driven it that much). It also seems to bog down when accelerating so do I just need to get it tuned or is that a trans issue? Also, it cruises at 2,300-2,500rpm at 55mph so is that OK or would different gearing be better? I don't know what transmission is in it but I'm pretty sure it's the stock one. What transmissions came with 78 power wagons by the way? Sorry for all the questions but i'm a fairly new mopar fan now
Also, what is the shift pattern for a NP203 with a part time kit?

ONE thing overlooked is the linkage.. With a Holley you need a 20-7 throttle adapterShould be an adjustable rod goes from the carb to a bell crank on the trans ?/ Then to the trans linkage... On some it may be a one piece long rod.. If it is missing look for Lockar kit..

At the carb or by the trans? And how far back should the lever on the trans be at WOT?
Edit: I'm pretty sure it's a Lockar kit

I have a 1979 W150 and have had a 75 D100. 1970s Dodge trucks had A-727 automatic transmissions. Every 70s Dodge truck I have driven shifts into second like you describe. Those transmissions are only three speed, no overdrive.
