46RH swap and questions
First the question. Is a 46RH from a diesel the same as another?
Story: I have a 1976 Dodge Chinook motorhome (360) that is in pretty good shape and I have too much love for. That and being a cheap _____ (fill in the blank) has me wanting it better but not wanting to buy new/newer.
The 727 is great but lacks gear no. 4 so I have been looking for a while to find a 46RH and actually had one until it literally fell off of the back of the guys truck as he was delivering it! So I have the cross member, drive shaft, trans cooler and even a torque converter plus some bits but no trans. (FYI: If they fall off of a truck they break the bell housing and crack in half but don't split open.)
I have looked into the gear vendors OD unit but I think that will almost double the cost of this idea and as I have much of the stuff already . . . well? I understand a GV would give me a 1st gear, 2nd, 2.5, 3 and OD. I wonder if it would make a serious amount of difference? This is a small MH, only 18ft, 9000GVW and I may tow a small 12ft enclosed trailer with a motorcycle in it. It does not really work hard. All I am really after is a little fuel savings.
Now I have a line on one from a dodge cumins and just needed to ask if it is the same? I would think the bell housing is different than one from other donors AND it is not on the list of donors!
This is that list: Donner list: A 518 aka 46RH
1992-’96 Dakota with a 318 engine
1990-’91 Ramcharger with a 318 or 360 engine
1988-1995 Dodge Ram 2WD pickups and vans (1/2-ton through 1-ton) with a 318, 360 V-8 gas engine or diesel
1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993 w 318 V-8
1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee w 5.9L (360) V-8
1998-2003 Dodge Durango, Dakota w 5.9L V8 (4WD or 2WD
Thanks for the info in advance.

I think the answer to your question is in the question itself...
