I am rebuilding a 727, I was just about to put in the springs, steels, frictions into the 3rd gear drum, until I noticed cracks around the edge of the drum.

The 727 will be going into an RV behind a 440.

I never saw one break open or fall apart. I guess while apart if you could find one, why not replace it. If not, I'm sure you're good. I'm sure you know what you're doing but a trick with the pump gasket on installation. The gasket (O ring) around the outer pump could be difficult flopping back on pump install. Put the seal on the night or days before and place a large elastic band around it for at least 8 hours. When you take off the elastic the seal is temporarily flattened and slips into the case much easier without folding back.

It was difficult to get the piston with New outer seal to go into the drum. I tried pushing it in with my thumbs, didn't work. So, I took the old steels, frictions, and spacer plate put them in the drum and stood on top of it, then one side went in then I was able to push the other side with my thumbs.

I tried the rubber band around the edge of the piston idea......and it worked!!!!

I installed the lip seal on the piston, then I put a thick rubber band around the edge of the piston holding down the lip seal.....I left it on overnight. The next day when I to install the piston it went it easy....it literally fell in, no struggle...nothing.
