I posted about this in "b body" before I saw a "trans" board, so please cut me some slack.
I have a 727 sm. blk trans with a long extension strapped to a 318 in a 74 satellite. Nothing I've read anywhere talks about the torsion bar support being in the way of simply dropping the trans. It is very much in the way, the trans extension runs above and past the "torsion" support bar. Please dont tell me the torsion bars gotta come out, or worse the motor. Could this be a freak show? these 318's usually come with the shorter 904 trans...did someone strap a long neck, sm. block 727 to the motor and shove the whole thing in there? can I remove the extension on the trans? will it even help? or is the output shaft going to still be in the way? Maybe cut the torsion support and bolt on gussets , leaving the bars alone? the torsion bars look difficult to remove...to put it mildly. I doubt I can drop the bell housing below the motor to slide the trans forward. Someone please help.
