Cheetah Valve bodies

Has anyone used the Cheetah reverse pattern valve body made by Turbo Action????? It says all over the package not for street use...Or is that to protect there ars from a lawsuit...It also says it has no hold back/braking in first gear which is good In case I miss 2nd and hit 1st on a down shift....I installed it in my Duster after adjusting the bands that were way out of adjustment...Some one adjusted them backwards they had 4 turns out on the foward band and 2 turns on the low/reverse band...Ran it on the lift and am waiting for the roads to clear from all the salt which will be in late April or May...Cant wait to get the car out of winter prison..The sooner the better in case the trans. needs to be rebuilt...Any help on the valvebody would be great...Thanks...Bill

I do run one.

I think the street use is indeed a liability issue, although the one I have............and it may be the way the trans is adjusted..........shifts VERY hard into 2nd unless you drop off the pedal a bit.

You might consider a forward pattern which can give you 1st gear braking. If your shifter is set up right, (and you have a good one) you don't need to worry about downshifting and hitting the wrong gear.

One thing that DOES worry me a bit about the reverse pattern shifters is getting to neutral FAST, which is a problem with the (Cheetah) shifter gate, is a matter of practice, and could eff you up if you are "out" of practice. If using a ratchet shifter, shifting quick to neutral is impossible.

That is, I worry a bit about breakage.......broken rear end, you might want to get it out of gear quick.

The OTHER thing that "no 1st braking" aggravates, is the A-727 sprag failure problem. Google "Torqueflite explosions" and in fact Cheetah has a warning about how to properly do burnouts.

440 I already have it installed...My shifter is a Hurst Promatic II it works very well either way forward or reverse...The Burn out segment of the instructions says to do the burnouts in 2nd gear or get it started in 1st and let off and shift to 2nd...What happens if you are all ***** out and hit 2nd in a race situation..My transmisson is a 904 so I guess Ill have to take it easy even with the valve body I had with a full manual shift kit installed it would spin through 2nd gear...The Cheetah VB doesnt have a kick down and is full manual no automatic features at all...Bill

The 904s don't seem to have the same problems the 727s have, the opinion being that the parts are lighter.

I would not want to run a ratchet with a reverse body for the reason I mentioned.........not being able to quickly acess neutral. If something bad breaks in first, you may not be going all that fast. If it breaks in 2nd, and you have practiced up and thought some about it, at least you are only 2 clicks away, and of course 3rd /D is only 1

I have ran those valve bodies for years in my race cars.... Never had a problem. But, I'm racing them.... Always have the reverse pattern... Yes, in the 727 start burnout in 2nd and shift into 3rd when the tires start to spin.. I did the same way with the 904... I had a low gear set for 1st and really didn't use it much except for just getting the car rolling and then shifted into second... Only difference is the non breaking in first. IMHO...
