Dana 60 rear change
Greeting to all,
I have a 72' d200 with a 410 rearend gear ratio. It's great for the occasional metal recycling hauling with my trailer that I do (and for burning-off a little tread now an then). But I only do this (hauling) parttime, mostly I spend about 85% of the time on the hwy. The trade-off is that I'm running higher RPM's at "less comfortable" cruising speeds out on the hwy. Lower mpg's is a big factor as well. My question is how much of a benefit would I get by going to a 355 or even lower rearend ratio as far as rpm's/mpg's? Thought about an A518 and having the best of both worlds but it's a cheaper and less involved route to go with a rearend ratio change. Thanks

In my Dakota I run a 3.90 suregrip with the A518 overdrive tranny. I pull 2400 rpm at 70 mph. Changing yours to a 3.55 or 3.23 would be a great increase in mpg for you.

3.54 is the lowest that you can go with a D60. The design of it doesn't allow for any larger pinion gear head to fit properly.
A hydraulic OD tranny would help out greatly.
