Need details for A500 replacement of a 904

Hello All: I am searching for information on how to install a newer four speed automatic transmission on my 4.2L AMC 6 cylinder. I currently have a 904 Chrysler three speed auto behind it, but the long stroke engine screams when I’m doing over 60 MPH, with it hitting 3300 RPM at 73MPH which is where is usually drive on the highway. I have researched possible swaps, including using a GM 700R4 and the Novak 437AMC-1 adapter plate. While this has been done by others {mounting the GM trans on a 4.2AMC}, I found out that the Chrysler A500 was a four speed hydraulically operated automatic used on some Chrysler vans and want to find out more. I want to avoid installing a stand-alone ECM for transmission operation, {although I can handle that} and I want to keep the swap as simple as possible, hence my desire to avoid the GM swap. Please assist me with the following questions: 1. Does the A500 have similar/same linkages as the 904 for the throttle pressure arm {to the carb's linkage} and also the PRDNL arm? 2. I do not necessarily want a lockup torque converter, but if I must use one, I would, so in light if this concession: did any of the A500s come without a lock up TC? But if the A500 only came with a locking TC, can a non locking TC {from the 904 or maybe from some other Chrysler trans} be used on an A500? 3. Can I use the 904 flex plate with the A500? If not {perhaps because of the need to use the A500’s locking TC}, are the crankshaft bolt patterns the same? 4. How many splines are there on the output shaft of the A500. I understand the 904 has 23. Are yoke diameters the same as well? 5. I read that the 3rd and 4th gear would need to be manually activated via toggle switches. Is this true for the functionality of both gears or just for the overdrive? 6. Would anyone have the wiring diagram or other required devises {which type of solenoids, for instance} to accomplish this? 7. What is the additional length of the A500 vs. the 904? 8. Is the A500 transmission mounting pad located further back as compared to the 904? 9. I am assuming that the bellhousing pattern would be the same on all 904s used for Chrysler engines, including those used for the AMC engines. I also assume the pattern is the same for the 904 and the A500. If there were variations in bellhousing patterns, including starter motor location, please advise. Any answers to any/all of these many questions would be very much appreciated. I am a retired Ford Engineer and would return the favor in kind. I'm also open to purchasing components to accomplish this. Thank you.

after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size

I am not sure that the bell housing will match the motor. Check into that first. I know they will match a LA block and the later 5.2 magnum blocks.

Not sure ? If it uses a 6 cyl 904 trans You may need an adapter A500 only came in V8 style bell housing..small block/V6 The slant 6 did not get an overdrive ?
IF you go the Chev route. Maybe a 200R4 would be a better choice than a 700,should be lots of them in the junk yard mid 80"s

I believe it will be the same as the AMC V8's. My best advice would be to search Jeep and 4x4 sites.

Did a real quick search and found one for GM trans, so they are out there.
