I need a little help understanding the 727, I have a 1972 power wagon with an 360 and a 727. The transmission supposed to have about 2000 to 3000 miles on a rebuild. I can't verify this, Just what I was told. I lost drive and 2nd gear, but still have 1st and reverse. I can't start it in park and only occasionally can I start it in neutral. Most of the time I have to short the relay. I can't find anything with these symptoms. A lot about losing all forward gears or reverse. Any ideas? Also is a 727 a 727, except for the tail shaft or length. Would I be able to pull a 727 from a car or a 2 wheel drive truck swap the tail shaft and have it work?

 

Your power wagon is a 4x4 correct?
if so a 2wd trans will not work, output shaft and tailshaft are different between the two.

 

Rebuild what you have.. Some good book out for the "Do it yourselfer.....
