sure grip /open

How can u tell if u have a sure grip or open diff without taking out the carrier assembly?
Did roadrunners come with open diff ?

jack up the rear end and spin a wheel if the opposite wheel spins in the same direction it's a sure grip... if the opposite wheel spins the opposite direction it's a open rear end.

The only sure way is to pull the diff cover. A sure grip when worn out will act like an open carrier.

last year i had my mech put in a posi. 2001 dakota the 8 1/4 is a powr-lok. a 9 1/4 is called trac-lok. it did great in the 21 inches of snow.
