Transmission questions

As most of you regulars know, I'm brand new to Mopar, and just bought a 73 dart sport. I know it has an Automatic 904 in it with a 318. Now, the 904 has to be rebuilt. It has no reverse, and while pushing the car into my garage with my wife in the car steering, I was still able to push it with no resistance, and it made a god awful noise lol. A rebuild for this transmission at my local tranny shop would cost $650. Now, I want to get some advice on what I should do with this tranny. Should i have it rebuilt, with heavier duty parts and a shift kit? Should I look for a 727 out of a junkyard car and just have that rebuilt? Should i look at maybe going to a 4 speed? I would rather have a standard transmission, so should I just keep my eye open for a manual? I hope to build a 360 this winter, and put 3.55 gears in it… So what direction should I go as far as the transmission?

Look for a late 70's A body or F body 4 speed overdrive if that is what you want.. end cost ??? $12-1500
the 904 would be the cheapest route
The 360 brings up balance issues if you install a 4sp with the 318 you need a neutral balanced flywheel. When you install the 360 you will need to replace it or have it re balanced
