I have changed all the wheel cylinders on my car with new from Dorman. Also had the drums turned. When I went to put the drums back on it is as though they have shrunk. I have opened the blender to both the upper and lower wheel cylinders. Everything is seated and appears to be bottomed out. I put the old shoes back on and still have same issue. Am I missing something?

 

if that is the system i think it is. the shoe has a pivot at the bottom. that is on an concentric. and needs to be adjusted first before the other adjustment. i think the old books show you adjusting it with the drum on. i think there are slots in the drum to insert feller gauges to check the clearance. but cant member the detail

It might be the shoe lining is oversize (thicker) If nothing else works, you'll have to have them "arced." An "arcing" machine grinds lining off so the shoe matches the diameter of the drum



The '57 manual says

"New lining should be checked and ground to .010 to .024 under the drum diameter (if not pre-ground)"

They also say that turning drums........."Do not remove more than .030" during refacing operation"

This is different, as most "convention" for the average US car was .060 max as default.
