1989 rack and pinion Might be going, Help for advice or suggestions.

When I drive my 1989 Dodge Dakota Convertible it makes noises when I turn.

When I go straight I can turn the when about 45 degrees each direction before the truck starts turning.

Please Help for advance.

Thank you in advance.

You need to start by having someone turn the wheel while you watch the steering shaft for looseness to determine weather it is the rack or steering column

Well driving home from work. Lost my sterring. The 2 bolt that bolt the rack and pinion to the cross support frame under the engine ripped right out. Now I have to find a professional welder to repair. Then I will get a new rack and pinion.

There was a recall on those years for the rack and pinion doing just that.
