Brake system light!

So, everything is new on my 1967 belvedere, front discs an rear drum. Bought it this weekend from a engineer I work with that did a full frame off resto on it. (he's getting old, had to sell). Anyways, I parked it last night and got back in and noticed brake system warning light was on. I checked fluid, back reservoir was low, so I added, bled them today, hard pedal and amazing stopping power. Light still won't go off. I have an adjustable proportion ing valve on it, don't know if that matters. I saw where switch is on the distribution block, I unplugged wire, still on. Like I said everythin is new, and I hardly believe there's a wiring problem as it was all meticulously done right. I don't know where to go next. I never used parking brake so I figure I don't have to worry about that. Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

Would the master cylinder gasket (with those two "nipples" that go into reservoir) cause light to come on? One of them looks a lot longer than other when I thought they were supposed to be about same height. Hmmm

Nope I would guess a bad distribution block or wiring.

Hmm, it's brand new, I guess wiring. It's adjustable, I've never messed with an adjustable, has the handle right there on top. Is there a way I can reset it or somethig? Maybe all the way left or right then set back where it was?

Also could be your handbrake switch. It's great having a service manual.

Yea, I need to get one, I want a paper copy though and not a cd one. I could print it but it'd be nice to have original like I got for my 64. If anyone has any other ideas let me know!!

Year One probably has a reprint for it. They had one for my 68 Dart.

Ima check it out and see. Maybe I can find someone with some knowledge with the adjustable valves, maybe that's got something to do with it. It's so annoying! Lol cars so nice with a bright red light always on!

It's not your proportioning valve it's either where the wire connects to the distribution block, the wiring itself or the switch for the hand brake. Check the hand brake switch and maybe you knocked the wire off.

NOT TRUE. The light is wired to BOTH the brake warning switch down on the frame AND the emergency brake

Should be a single black wire going to the parking brake, grounds one side of the lamp

The pressure warning switch goes out "K" on the bulkhead connector, is a single violet color with a rubber covered connector

I checked this both against the "MyMopar" diagram posted below, as well as my 67 shop manual

Diagrams from "MyMopar:"

http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1967/67DartA.jpg

http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1967/67DartB.jpg

On diagram "B" find the "brake failure warning light switch" near the top of the page, follow the violet /tr wire over to "K" in the bulkhead connector, and then off the left of the page.

Pick the Violet/ tr back up on the "A" diagram, 9th wire from top right of page down page to a junction, black off to the right goes to parking brake, wire off to the left (violet) to one side of the cluster warning light.

Solved!!!

Thanks For the help! I went under dash, I guess due to vibration an everything new, the cable hold down clamp nut and bolt got loose. I guess last time I checked brake it came back just enough to clear switch, well vibration from that motor and all, I guess it eased its way back. Went down, tightened it all up, adjusted the pedal and viola! Light off. Thanks!! Found a reprint on year one...they are proud of it at 85 bucks. Ima buy cd, and just print it off at work lol

85 bucks is cheap insurance for me. The cd isn't really that much cheaper. Cheaper isn't always better. Playing with these old cars costs lots of money.

Glad you got it solved. Sometimes just basic visual stuff will get you an answer.

Also, no such thing as a frame off resto for a Belv...
