My Brakes doesn't work!

Hi!

Yesterday I accidentally drove over the pedestrian way when I was leaving a parking lot. On all the way to home my Plymouth Fury 74 doesn't presented brake problems but this morning I was taking my car out of the garage and I notice that the brake pedal goes to the floor even with a softer touch and the car doesn't brake. I had to use the parking brake to control the car and get it into the garage.

I checked the master cylinder brake fluid level and I notice that one of the fluid deposits was empty, so I add brake fluid but it doesn't work and my car still without brakes and the deposits of the master cylinder retains its fluids level.

Sounds like it sprung a leak in the system or just the master Cylinder failed...

I also thought about a leak but there's no brake fluid in my garage floor and I checked the four tires but no one has brake fluid loss

if one chamber is emptying out see if that goes to the front or back then fill and check for leaks. if nothing it could be a wheel cylinder leaking ir a failed master cylinder

I checked all the tires and none of them has brake fluid so I start to think that the master cylinder has failed. The master cylinder can be fixed or must be replaced?

I'm Guessing its a power brake car......
Pull the master away from the booster.... If it's wet... The master is leaking into the Power Booster and both will have to be replaced......

If its a non power boosted car..... Pull the carpet back from under the dash and see if its wet...... If so.... The master is leaking......

It was checked 4 months ago, some parts where changed and everything was working fine.

The fluid only disappeared one time after my accident. After I refilled the master cylinder the liquid don't disappear, it still into the master cylinder

It has power brake system from factory. I called my mechanic and he's going to check the car but If I must replace the booster how can I make a good choice? In some place I readed that depending of the engine size the owner should buy a booster with a higher diameter

Maybe...

Really I prefer to learn about parts and mechanic on this cars. Most of the mechanics think that one kind of replacement will work in all old cars. I prefer to learn how to do something to my car than call the mechanic

I hope there weren't any predestrians in the walk when you went over it. There must be a small leak somewhere in the system.. Another place to check would be to remove the master cylinder from the booster and check to see if it is leaking into the booster.. (you dont have to remove the lines to do this) Keep us posted...Bill

fortunately there wasn't predestrians when I drive over it. Today I get my car back, The booster was fine but the mechanic has rebuilt the master cylinder, changed the calipers, changed brake pads, changed one of the disc brakes and cleaned all the brake lines. Now the car brake better than after the accident
