electric problem
i have an 86 dodge d-150. 360 engine. i replaced the alternator. it started right up. i removed the negative terminal on the battery and the engine shut off and will not start. i had no spark, so i repaced the coil. still wont start. i have power at the coil, power at the ceramic resistor. what could be the problem?

Sounds like you were running off the battery and not the alternator.
The new alternator could be faulty or the wires to/from it are at fault (bad or misplaced) ie you wired it so that it bypassed the alternator.

the alternator was bad. i replaced it, checked batt, alt, coil, and distributor. had electricity where i was supposed to. started it up and it ran for a minute or so and shut off. would not restart. checked the ignition module. it had gone bad. whether or not it had anything to do with the initial breakdown or just coincidence. replaced that and now it runs again. thanx for the help.
