I've got turn signals and tailights, but no brake lights.

Just like the title says, I have no brake lights on my '77 D150 Adventurer. I have turn signals and when I turn the headlights on, the tailights come on as well. But when I step on the brake pedal, no brake lights! I am at a loss as to what this could be. Any ideas?

X2. It's mounted on little bracket right above the brake pedal.

Brakelights go through the turn signal switch. If you have power out of the brake light switch when you step on the brake, you have a bad column switch

Since I don't have hazzards or brake lights, it makes sense that the turn signal mechanism is bad. I have the turn signal cam, but its the part that the cam bolts to that has the hazzard switch on it. I have the steering wheel off, and I can see a whole bunch of wires coming out of that turn signal mechanism. If I can locate a new mechanism, how hard is it to replace it, having to cut all those wires and splice them into the new part?

Hey, my dad had an idea regarding the problem last night. I thought I'd run it by you guys to see what you think.

He's thinking it may just be as simple as the turn signal relay/flasher unit on the fuse panel. Does this sound possible? It would sure be a whole lot easier and cheaper than trying to find a whole turn signal mechanism.

the quick way to check is swap the turn signal and hazard flashers...if you lose the turn signals, but get your hazards, then yeah, the flasher is no good

Got the turn signals and hazzards working. Still no brake lights. Checked for power at brake light switch. It has power to one of the two spade connectors, and no power to the other spade or the big plug at the end of the two wires. Is this the way it's supposed to do? Is the brake switch shot?
My dad thinks that maybe the other spade has power to it when the switch is operational, thus the big plug would have power as well. Does this sound correct?

My diagram has power from fuse to brake switch, out of brake switch to flasher, flasher to turn signal switch, from signal switch to firewall connector, connector to lights.

Jumping brake switch should turn lights on.

You ARE checking this power at the switch with the pedal depressed, right?

If you are, you have found the problem--a bad brake switch
