no electrical power in gnition switch start mode
no electrical power in gnition switch start mode
I have a 1970 Satellite, when I try to start the car no power(electric) gets to the coil , as soon as I release the key power gets to the coil and the engine will start...any help?
There are four separate switches inside the "can" that everybody calls the "ignition switch
1 One we are not concerned with here feeds power to the accessory buss in the fuse panel in "run" or accessory
2 IGN1" or "RUN" Traditional "dark blue" is ONLY hot in "run" It is NOT hot in "start" and feeds power to the gauges, and through the bulkhead to the ignition system, alternator field, regulator, and on some cars a couple of other things. THIS IS WHAT feeds power to the IGN system in "run"
3 "IGN2" or "BYPASS" Traditional brown, this comes from the IGN switch, goes through the bulkhead and is hot ONLY in start. THIS IS WHAT feeds the IGN system during cranking, and bypasses the coil resistor, for a hot spark during spark
4 "START" Traditional yellow, goes from the IGN switch, through the bulkhead to the start relay, and is hot ONLY in "start." This causes the starter to operate
If the car will not FIRE with the key in "start" you may have a bad connection in the brown bypass circuitw
