Voltage and alternator regulators

I have a 60 amp alternator with an internal regulator. The alternator was a replacement for the original. Do I still require the old voltage regulator? I am using an electric ignition distributor and E-coil that just asked for 12v power and ground so I do not have a ballast resistor in this case. Will the second regulator cause any problems? I did have one instance where the back of the old regulator melted. But, since i got a new one that hasnt happened.

you don't need the 2nd one and I doubt the alternator has anywhere to hook it to.
