Starter and alternator

My '68 RR should be ready for early summer after total restoration. Any thoughts on starter, alternator and mufflers. Headders are 1.78 and engine is 383 ..30 over with little bit of a cam?

Does looks matter? Are you trying to keep it stock? If not,a powermaster mini starter,a Denso alternator.mufflers,I love the flowmaster 44's,but the 40 series might be better for you.

just my .02 worth, john

Depends on what you are planning 100 point resto / Not with headers . SO I would update the regulator to the later electronic version and the corresponding alternator. The smaller mopar performance/ newer style starter may be of benefit with the headers. Some nice Dynomax mufflers or Flowmasters. I had 3 chamber flowmasters on the 67 Coronnet I used to have. The two chamber were too loud on the street, at least for me... If you have any type of aftermarket shifter that uses a cable make sure to use some type of heat wrap on the cable

As far as mufflers go....
I have Flowmaster Super 40's (2 chamber) on my slammed Chev. pickup and Flowmaster 50's (3 chamber) on my 383 Fury.
They both sound great but, my pickup is loud to the point that I am changing the mufflers, this week!
The Fury just sounds healthy!

It will be driven on weekends and such. I would like to put it back to stock maybe some day. I will be putting an aluminum radiator and already put in front disc brakes. I have a'96 mustang gt convert. with flowmasters and it is a little bit loud but not unbearable.

I read that the mini-starter from some of the Dakotas works fine on even a stroker BB. Just a tip to save from a Big-Buck aftermarket starter.

I got this starter from Summit..it was their brand...I still have yet to fire it off but the price was right...the bottom stud hole was too small..I had to drill it out...

CptTom -

If you have headers, then IMHO, a mini/high torque starter is a must. Also make sure there's some kind of heat shielding for both the starter and the wires.

I'm using (and just had rebuild) my stock 60amp alternator and it runs fine and safe for any "older" wiring you might have. Just think it looks cool too. (Sorry Eric, that one just isn't "Chrysler" enough, LOL.)

Probably the Magnaflow or Flowmaster mufflers are fine, but I'm still using old Walker hemi mufflers on a new exhaust system, and they are holding up quite well. (Sounds good too.)
