Vinyl top removal question
Vinyl top removal question
I'm gonna get a 68' charger project soon, so me and my uncle who has his own body/mechanic shop can work on it. I want a hard top but it looks like I might get a vinyl top one. The one I'm looking at has the vinyl removed already, and it's unpainted.
My question is I heard that if you remove the vinyl top you have to replace the roof skin or something of that nature because the metal underneath is weaker then the hard top versions. Is this true?
Also I know I'm gonna have to remove the chrome lining that separates the vinyl from the back where the gas cap is, but what about the chrome lining around the windows? Is there chrome lining around the windows that's not on the hard tops?

the chrome trim is there either way , one reason they put the vinyl top on was they didnt have to finish the metal to perfection and it was quicker to just slap a top on it but the steel is all the same gauge , you will just have to sand and puddy a bit more to get it perfect but well worth it
