68 Dart 318 2bbl stumbles
I just had the stock carb rebuilt and re installed on my Dart, and after coasting or decending a hill, when I step on the gas, I get bit of a stumble before the car goes. It's pretty subtle when the the car is warmed up, more noticeable when the car is cold. Any thoughts as to what this might be would be a great help. It's a 318 with the 2bbl, CA car and Torqueflite.
Thanks
Peter

the fuel/air misture or idle could be off too. I'd double check your timing, look for any and all vacuum leaks and adjust the gule/air mixture.
Did you do anything else to the powertrain beside having the carb rebuilt?

There is an adjustment on your accelerator pump. This is the part on the carb that squirts the gas in when you press on the pedal. The fuel is sucked from the bowls through the carb venturis with the air that is going through the carb. when you press on the gas initially the air gets in but there is a delay in sucking up enough fuel. this creates a temporary lean situation. The accelerator pump squirts a little fuel into the carb on acceleration the compensate for this. My guess is the accelerator pump is not re-installed correctly (if it was not doing this before) or is out of adjustment.

Thanks, I'll start with the easy stuff, the vacuum leaks. I does pump out a lot of black smoke once it starts, then as the choke turns off it stops. I've learned not to floor the pedal to set the choke, but was manually tripping the choke butterfly and now can hear it trip when I tap the pedal. I wondered about the jets, if they had been changed or something. The fuel filter is new and totally clear. Otherwise, it runs like a top. If Chrysler still made something like this....
