I just towed home a 1973 dart swinger, brown in color did not start but got it running after some gas in the tank and some starter fluid it also needed a battery...
I had to trailer it b/c the owner was freaking out at the thought of me wanting to drive it but once I got it home I unloaded the beast and cranked it I took it for a spin around the block and omg it runs amazing,
it has lots of power for an old tired car, the tires break loose so easy so much fun, I cant wait to get working on it, this car will be daily driver and will be driven hard, I dont like to baby my cars, but I take extreme care of them, I will be probably getting a 360 or just rebuild the stock 318 it sure needs valve steam seals.
i will be needing help from you guys on how to properly adjust the carburetor, the last owner installed a brand new carb but when you start the car it revs way too much, I’m sure it also needs a new timing chain and the distributor adjusted right.
I’m very happy to have found a project that i enjoy so much, I hope to share with you guys the progress on the car!
Oh and the best of all i just paid $400 for it!!!

Well today I took the car down to the car wash and blasted 5 years worth of crap, looks so much better now, also got it inspected so its almost legal for the road, the only thing left is to transfer the title over to my name and get the plates and registration sticker.
Now for the nitty gritty, I need expert advice on how to adjust the carb, it has the stock 2br, I have looked at it and it only has 4 adjustments, two screws that are in the front and two more that are on the driver side, what tools do I need to properly adjust it.
Also the choke its not working at all, it wants to stay closed the whole time, there is a vacuum piston that is a the top of the carb that moves with a vacuum line that comes of the carb but it moves any time the car its running, and the solenoid that comes out of the intake manifold to open the choke does not seem to work although its brand new. I think the vacuum lines are all jacked up, the time advance line goes straigt to the carb with no check or retard valves.
There is a sensor on the radiator that has two vacuum lines that go to it and only one is attached, then on the firewall there is what looks like a solenoid that has two lines going to it and again only one is attached, I need some pictures of this vacuum lines so I can trace mine and make it operate correctly
Yesterday while fixing the light bulbs on the dash i managed to jack up the speedometer cable, I pulled the white plastic piece at the tip of the cable to remove it from the cluster and a piece that hugs the black rubber hose broke off, today I took it apart after noticing that it no longer worked, but what was weird is that the metal cable was sticking out 1 foot from the hose, I order another speed cable so I will replace it tomorrow
I also found a leak at one of the heater hoses, the one coming out behind the ac compressor what a pain in the *** this line is, I will be replacing the lower and upper radiator hoses along with the heater hoses tomorrow
I checked the ac compressor and its locked up so I will have to buy new everything pretty soon, I got a quote for the compressor with no clutch the drier and the expansion valve for $180 and some change so that’s gonna have to happen pretty soon
I will also like to know what tool is needed to remove the valve springs with the heads still attached as it smokes quite a bit
Sorry for the long post but this is an old car and it needs tons of work.

The two screws on the front lower part of the carb are the idle mixture screws. Try to get the highest reading on the vacuum gauge. Clockwise to lean it out and counter-clockwise to richen. The idle speed screw is on the driver side, this adjusts the rpms. 750? for idle. The other screw must be for the fast idle adjustment. This is the adjustment for when the chock is operating, when you first start the car. It idles faster when warming up.
To remove the valvesprings, there is a tool that is shaped like a prybar sort-of. It uses the rocker shaft fot the lever point. I cant tell you where to obtain one though. Youll also need to pump the cylinder up with air before you attempt the removal.
