Looking at a 71' Demon

Hi All,

I looked at a 71' Demon today born with a 340. There is no engine/trans and he is asking between $2500-3000. I'm thinking of offering $1800 max $2000 for a rolling chassis. Does this sound reasonable? I don't have any pics as the car has been dismantled but is complete interior/exterior. There is rust on drivers side lower quarter and top front skirts. It has original paint, Hemi orange. Front fenders, trunk and floor seem solid. The doors are rust free and have been stored inside with front fenders. Interior seats, bumpers and grill/lights have also been stored inside. There is no hood though with the car, does anyone know if/where I can find a replacement?

Your thoughts?

Joe

'70-'72 Dart or '71-'72 Demon hood will work.

Mine is one project at a time. I have two buddies that have as many cars as me or maybe more. They work on several of them at a time and never seem to get one done. I abandoned my Dart for several months to finish up my Aspen. I suggest that you do not spread yourself too thin. Finish your 440 or 400 build first then look for other projects.

Good advice, the one thing about being up here in Canada though, where the population is a lttle sparse, is a good deal/car doesn't come along everyday. The topic of having a vehicle chosen prior to doing the engine build has come up also, and it made sense to look at that as it will determine where I will go with the build. Thanks again for your advice.

I wouldn't give more than $1500, it will never be a numbers matching car. When dealing with rust ? There is always more than you can see once work is started..

Thanks TVLynn for the tip, that is especially true(unseen rust) for vehicles in Canada. We have six months of winter up here in central Alberta. last week the temperature was -38F here with the wind chill factor. Yes that is a Minus! So anyways, I'll go and look at the car again today and bring $$ incase I decide to make an offer.

Does any one know if I will need a hood with a scoop in the middle to work with the 440/400 depending on which one I use? It looks like the factory hood had 2 parallel scoops. There is a factory hood for sale locally for $125 but as I won't be using a 340, if it won't work then I won't bother. Thanks all. Here is one on ebay that I think I may need if I buy the car http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-72-Dodge-...item3f1277b23b

Thanks all,

Joe

I have seen picture of people using those hoods and putting 440 emblems on them. I would buy it.. As far as the hood fitment ? it depends on intake, carb, air filter combo

Talking

Thanks for the words of encouragement all, nuttin left but the grinding now. It's a done deal! I know I'm looking at 3-5 years $20K and the biggest challenge of my life, but I would rather do it this way or no way. For me it's all about the journey. I'm sure when I get into this elbows deep I'll be singing a different tune....so be it.

I am now the proud owner of a lifeless 71' Dodge Demon Hemi-Orange with white stripes(I may go to black on the stripes but keep the orange). Got it for 2K but he didn't want to let it go for less than $2500. I'll post pics as soon as I get some. Thanks for all the warm wishes and advice on making this decision. Give me a year or so and I'll probably get an award for the most questions posted on Mopar Forums. Lol! Cheers all.

Thanks again,

Joe
