spun bearing fix

last summer i spun a rob bearing and i have the engine out on a stand in my garage, will this be a hard and expensive fix? i dont want to send it in and pay a fortune when i could do it myself. Also what size is the engine bolt where the pully is i dont have a socket that big, is it 1"1/4?

Hippo, do the job right for best results. Tear it down, have the block cleaned and the crank and the rod checked.I would replace all the bearings while the motor is out, might as well do the rings too. Bits of metal from that spun bearing get everywhere! Good luck, take your time, you have all winter!

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I think my 318 was indeed a 1 1/4" bolt. Only think I can remember for some reason is the K-Frame bolts being 1 1/8"

the engine was just rebuilt so i dont need to do rings but i will change all the bearings and get the crank cleaned. i was so choked when i heard my engine knocking only after about 2000miles on rebuild. and its a 360 not 318 but the size should be the same.

I once spun a rod bearing on a 383 and did a low-cost fix and avoided doing a bigger rebuild. You do run the risk of shavings in other parts of the motor if you don't have the rest of the engine cleaned.

To fix, I had to have the journals ground down and had to install undersized bearings. (bearings with a smaller inside diameter) I also had to replace the connecting rod that had the spun bearing; once it starts knocking there is a good chance that the rod is bent.

Best of luck to you.
