Water Valve Temp Sensor

Hi guys was wondering if they fill the Temp sensor from the Water valve that goes into the heater housing Coiled at the end with Mercury ?

I don't know for sure but it's probably set up like a thermocouple as opposed to a merc switch. Or the sensing end is filled with a wax mixture like a thermostat.
