Good evening everyone! So I am dealing with a 1977 d-100 with a 318. I have been trying to install a one wire alternator on this motor. I first tried to install a powermaster 8-57529 with my original brackets and then a different set of alternator brackets. It didn't fit what so ever. I then tried to install powermaster 8-58529 and I didn't have any luck with that either.
First picture is the original mount and first alternator I ordered vs the stock one. Other pictures are off the .60 inches shorter alternator that powermaster recommended and it still hit the block and didn't come close to mounting up. So I'm just confused if I'm missing something or what here.
The 8-57529 case style is based on the GM CS130 and I don't recognize what type the 8-58529 is based on but, looking at your pictures it's not a drop in replacement for the original mopar style units.
They make high output alternators in the original mopar style. Take a look here.
It is also possible to switch to a GM SI10 / SI12 style alternator but, it will be necessary to remove your brackets and modify them. Which I have done, Its not too hard if one is comfortable doing metal work and have access to an angle grinder (w/ a cut off wheel) and welder.
Regardless of which upgrade you choose, make sure you also upgrade the alternator output wire to at least 6 gauge in size (they make wiring kits).
Also,if it isn't already done, bypass your amp gauge as their already known for over heating in stock form and can't be expected to support an upgraded charging system. Read more on that here.
Hope this helps

Thank you for the detailed response and taking your time to reply! I contacted powermaster directly after not being able to make the first one fit and they gave me the part number to the second one, which corresponds with my search on speedway motors as well. However I know for a fact the square back or retro will fit no problem, from what I have seen the ones I have tried will fit on the big block no problem though.
Wiring is no problem, but thank you for the tips regardless! And I could easily make my own brackets to install the current one they sent me but honestly when you spend that much on an alternator for a specific application I shouldn't fricken have to lol.
