79 D100 gas tank question

Hey fellas, I have a 79 dodge d100 step side that I am restoring. I tried to take the sump out of the gas tank but the screws broke so I drilled and re-tap the holes, I went through the abs with drill and the new screws come in contact with the gas where before the screws didn't. I am wondering if this is OK or something bad can happen. Please chime in.

I don't think the plastic tank is going to hold up if it has a screw in it !!!

Is kind of hard to explain. The ABS tank has a metal flange where you bolt the pickup and gage float that goes inside the gas tank. The bolts that hold that flange wouldn't come out and broke so I had to re-tap them, now I can install the new pick up and gage float the only difference is that now the bolts holes go into the tank cavity, no leaks but the bolts can come in contact with the fuel. My question was even though there is a ground wire that goes to the pick up, would the bolts touching the gas make for a explosion. Sorry kinda hard to explain.

Ok, I got it that time.... "You broke the screws off for the sender unit mounting retainer flange"...
Should not be a problem, The sender is grounded already.... You should be good to go... I'm in 100%...

I had the same thing happen. The original screws were of a specific length. Hardware store selection s don't have the correct length. Add small washers to get proper seal.
