82 lean burn replacement

My son has an 82 d100 slant six with original lean burn. It is giving intermittant so spark and we are going to change over to regular mopar ignition module or maybe a gm hei module. Question is will the OE lean burn distributer work well with the conversion or should we change it out for a regular electronic ignition distributor. Thanks

The distributor will not have mechanical or vacuum advance mechanisms so should be changed.
