Help with my 83 d150 slant six. Issue while driving and dies in the middle of the roa

Any help would be great.

I have a 1983 d150 slant six 1bbl and I'm having an issue when I'm driving the truck out and the ambient temprature is hot it dies on me. I have to hit the gas all the way to the floor for it to start. Sometimes it will start with one go and sometimes it wont. I've noticed this more now since it's hot out, because when it was colder out I didn't have the issue. What could cause this? The fule filter looks clean and clear I changed the fuel pump on the block. Could it be a bad sending unit? Dirty gas tank. Any help would be great

Are you using E10 or 15? If so try regular unleaded or fuel from a deferant source.

Also Check all the furl hoses for cracks and leaks... Even the one at the fuel tank... Replace if needed or very old.

not sure. Im just using regular gas from the pump.

Could it have something to do with cheap fuel?

I was planning on doing that when I had the time. All the guel hoses inside the engine compartment as well as the ones that run from the tank yo to engine and probably clean out the tank. But how could old hoses cause this issue? It would be leaking fuel it wouldn't just stop randomly no?

Pressure side would leak for sure... Suction side could / mite draw air in causing not enough fuel getting up to the fuel pump and into the carb under certain conditions.

Air is easier to pull than fuel...

Any good fuel mods that i could do that would be beneficial? Anyway of installing a electric fuel pump to push the fuel into the carb instead of pulling with the mecanical one?

You can do that.... But dont you really need to know what the problem with the truck is before you just start throwing parts at it?
We are just suggesting the obvious thing for you to check... Once you have checked that and its good or bad? we can move on to helping you find you problem with why the truck is dying out on you!
Its a good possibility that you may have more than just 1 issue !!!

You are right. Thank you. Since it's a old truck and alot needs replacing wouldn't it just be better to replace what I can at the moment?

Yes... But we would like to help with why its dying on you while driving...
So the question becomes what have you checked when this happens?
Is it loosing spark?
or
Is it running out of fuel?
At any rate, Will be happy to help with our 2 cents worth in getting you up and running with your project..
If you do decide to install an electric pump? install it back by the fuel tank with some new hoses and wire it in with a fused relay and a good known ignition source.... Cheers
