Exclamation ? dont know wat engine i should get?

i just bought a 1970 plymouth duster. it has a slant six in it right now but i wanna race it but i want a engine that i can get horsepower for cheap if possible i was lookin at the 340,360,440 but dont know wich one i want the 340 but thier hard to find for a good price

ok so lets say i just fix up the slant six how much do u think i can get out of it at the beggin i thought it wouldnt b worth it but now i am thinkin if i should just dump my 3000 in it like port n polish the engine n bye another manifold etc.

well, do you want it to be an all out race car?
or a street car
or a street car that makes about 20 passes a year?

How much money in the car are you willing to invest?
Because chances are you have the standard rear end.
So anything above a 318 probably you need a new rear end.
Also with a power house if you got 4 wheel manual drum brakes like i had on my duster your gunna wanna upgrade. Cause that car won't wanna stop.

But if you have the money i would go 340 with a 727 (inless you wanna go 4 speed but i believe slant six only came with auto or 3 on the tree and you would have to redo linkage for 4 speed.) and try to find a dana rearend.

You could look into clifford performace.
Ive heard some stuff about making a slant 6 race worthy.
Ive never been able to find any articles though.

welcome to the forum. 2x what 67gtx/sgnrulz said. It sounds like you are new to racing, keep the 6 for now, bring it out to your local track i am sure they have a street class bracket make a few passes, get to know some other MOPAR drivers, see what they run. When it comes time to go big,go big in a big way 440!

And a plain jane 318 would do about the same i believe and you would be saving quite a bit of weight i think.
