I've had a 05 Ram with a 4.7, I considered swapping a 360 for the 4.7 . In my opinion the 4.7 is a pos and not worth modification, I traded mine off.

One man's opinion and you quit?

I suppose you can try and find a forum where everyone thinks like you, I don't think there is one, I haven't found it.

Good luck. I think you'll find that engine was designed by Chrysler to be a throw away engine.

Its just discouraging when the first reply to your post is "GIVE UP. THE 4.7 IS PURE CRAP. HEMI OR DIE"
i own a 4.7. Its a litle doggy..it has its issues. It has 130000 miles and has lifter noise but it pulls hard and its all original...if memory serves...the sohc neon 2.0 was a "throw a way motor" to most but i built one that stomped all over audi tt's with a cam and lifters and it was automatic to boot and normally aspirated...
When i started this post i have a build already planned..im new to building engines even though ive been a technician since 1997. I was only hoping that somebodywould just give me an opinion on a 4.7....not say only hemi....im not trying to build a drag engine...im trying to just get a little more torque and make it run better.thats all...not drama

Don't be discouraged, we are actually here to help. The throw away comment is based on my machinists opinion. This engine has many complex design features that make it a labour intensive rebuild driving the price up. As the new design features were to take this engine along way the aftermarket never supported it as many hoped.

Finding a good engine builder and massaging the head ports and seats can help, camshafts, injectors and computer upgrade will be the difficult element to get this little beauty to the next level.

I'd post more about the 4.7 but I'm sure you don't want to see it.

Nobody is doing much with the later 4.7 because of the emission laws. EPA wants to lock our hoods closed..

Ok.... Engine block wise... This is just my 2 cent.... And... I have not tried any of this myself.... Just so you know.... But its food for thought.....
Beside all the basic's >>>>>>>
Full balance the rotating asm.
Shave .005 off the head and the block deck
Port match intake and exhaust.
Clean up the Floor of the heads only.... No porting.. just clean up..

Mock up the motor... Off set the cams 2* to 4* to the + (Advance) Recheck the interference !!
If all looks good... Button it up.....

Port the Thottle Body......
Reflash the PCM... (Z-industries,, Kenne-Bell,,,, Leach performance,,,)
Install a Cat back system....

Put the Plow on it and take it a spin !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just my 2 cent of something to look at....
Hope this gets the gear turning.....

We just got rid of wife's jeep 2 months ago because of the issues with the 4.7l. We wanted to get our money out of the vehicle before the motor was dead. When looking into replacement engines (primary family vehicle can't be down for rebuild) I found it cost as much for an OE replacement 4.7l as I spent for my performance 5.9l in my Jeep. The problems we had with Jeep did go beyond just the motor alone. I know a couple of guys at speedfreaks have built up 4.7l, they may have some better advice. Site is fairly dead so it may take a while for them to see any questions.
