Did this problem arise only after the new parts were installed?

I'm assuming by "turn over" that you mean it does not crank, or does not crank very fast, when hot.

Your no1 suspect is the starter, but don't just throw parts at the thing, unless you like to waste money

Have the battery load tested, and take a look at the battery specs -- is it a heavy enough battery to crank a big V8?

Take a good look at the cables. They can corrode internally which makes them electrically smaller wire. Any noise, sizzling connections, or hot cables, is a giveaway.

The RIGHT way to do this is to use what is called a "carbon pile" load tester, with which you can

load test the battery

test the battery cables

measure the starter amperage draw

They look something like this:

I could be way off but have you or has he messed with the timing at all? I had a issue with a car I used to have where the timing caused the motor to not want to turn over very slowly or not at all after it got warmed up, probably not it but its an easy thing to check
