trans cooler

when i pulled my old engine out i think i striped the fittings where they connect to the radiator, how would i fix this ?

or would it just be a better idea to get a extrernal trans cooler ?
and if i do, would i need to plug the holes where the fitting were ?

I would see if the threads can be repaired either by yourself or a good radiator shop. An external cooler will work if its a good one and placed where it can get enough airflow. If you use an external cooler, you would not need to plug the old radiator fittings.

Ditto on the external cooler, an upgrade that should be made anyways. Don't cheap out and use rubber extenders and hose clamps on it. Put new steel lines or steel extentions on your existing lines. IMO.
