from a 318 to a 440
I have a 1973 Road Runner which has a 318 in it. I came across a 440 and want to put it in. Actually I have already got the 318 out and ready to put the 440 in.
My question is does anybody know what modifications I will have to do before I can put the 440 in?
ANY advice or input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Specific modifications would be really great if anyone knows them.

Actually I am in the process of doing the exact same thing. Here is a link to where my thread is on the charger forum. It will be the same basic concept. I have a 73 charger.
So far i know this
I <donno if it will be the same for you, but probably VERY close> need to:
make sure i have the 8 3/4 inch rear end or better
bigger than 9" drum brakes in the back and the disks in the front are good enough
New mounts
New wiring harness
Typical Engine rebuild parts
Oh and your small block tranny wont bolt to the 440 I do not believe. And im also pretty sure that since the 440 is externally balanced and the 318 internally something needs done with that, but im not sure right off hand.
If you have found any other information about the swap I would love to know about it, like I said I am doing it as well.

You'll need big block motor mounts for your year of car, including the engine brackets and the rubber mounts0--separate pieces
You'll need the proper big block transmission--SB and big block patterns are different.
I don't know about the rear trans mount
You might have to switch the lower radiator outlet to the opposite side, and the radiator might not be big enough.
Power steering brackets, etc, misc
Depending on what transmission you find (tailshaft length) you might have to make a new driveshaft, or shorten yours.
It would be FAR easier to put a 340/360 in that car, pretty much a bolt in.
Depending on what the 440 is out of (a truck?) the manifolds might be troublesome, unless you plan headers, ditto with the pan. I'm sure your car still uses a front sump pan.
