318 swap

I have a 1974 Dodge Charger and i was wondering what year 318 will fit in my car without much change? Im thinking about getting a 1967 318 to swap but i wanna know if itll swap straight through.

Somewhere around 67 --68 is when the crank register changed. Older (273) used a small snout register for the torqueflite, if that's what you have. If you have a stick, regardless of year, the pilot bushing hole may be undersized -- not finished machined--and some were not deep enough

So I'm going to say 68 / later. You need a front sump pan, IE not a rear sump out of a pickup, van, motor home.

What was originally in the car?

It has a original 318 but the block has a hairline crack in it. Has original 904 auto transmission.

Go ahead and use it. Just use your accessories as needed. Install all new external gaskets & freeze plugs before installing it....
