65 Coronet 440 problems

Hey all-
one of my customer cars is acting really weird. some background of the car: 1965 Dodge Coronet 440 weiand dual-quad intake with dual carter 600cfm carbs. The cam is hot enough that it doesn't need a vacuum advance and it was dyno tuned by mr. norm (i think). The car was restored in Florida, sent to Denver, Colorado and now it resides in my shop for my customer in Beaverton, Oregon.

Symptoms: Running like its a diesel, hard to start and keep running and won't rev past 1k rpm with foot to the floor. It ran great a week ago and i go to move it out of the shop and it started up great and i let it warm up then go to back it out and as i get out of the shop and head down the driveway it doesnt wanna go. doesn't make any sense to me.

Whats been replaced: Fuel filter, rods/jets in the carbs have been tuned for sea level instead of high alt., YES there is gas in the tank, just put $50 of premium in it.

What do ya'll think?? I need suggestions asap! Thanks for looking

See if gas is pouring into the intake. Piece of crap could be stuck in the needle valve keeping the float from closing. Too much gas will make it run like crap. 600 cfm carb did it to my Aspen.

That's what I was thinking. But i dont think a fuel pump would just up and go out.... Idk though, it could happen i guess.

As a shop, do you have the ability to check the exhaust for A/F ratio? Until that, I will go with what my mentor taught me, "80% of carb problems are in the distributor".

No I don't but we wanted to put it on a dyno sometime soon to figure out the afr and see what she puts out at the wheels.

Please elaborate for me: "80% of carb problems are in the distributor"

I still think you broke a piece of dirt loose and it's causing you carb problems....You found anything yet RR.

Did you check the ignition timing? Almost sounds like the timing chain.

If I have a fuel delivery problem I take a spray bottle of gas (mist) and while it is running with the trottles open slightly spray directly into carb(s). If it speeds up it is lacking fuel, if it stumbles and quits it already has too much. A helper and a fire extinguisher is a good safety practice. Good Luck, keep us posted.
