Carb for a 440

So I am trying to figure out what to do with my Carb.

I just pulled my 600 CFM Endurashine Edelbrock carb (14064) with electric choke off of my 400, and got to thinking if Edelbrock was right about being able to use it on the 440. I have two indepoendent people saying it will starve the engine, so do I meter and jet it, or get the Edelbrock 750 CFM Carb (1411), which does not come in endurashine, and sell the 600 cfm one? Fyi the 14064 retails close to $500 and the 1411 is about $300.

I have a 1977 440 that is bored .30 over, with sealed power pistons, with the entire Edelbrock performer series kit (cam, timing gear, intake, and cylinder heads), steel crank, headers, aluminum water pump and housing, and some other stuff.

i don't think that you will be able to jet that 600 enough to feed that motor. I'd go with a 750.

I believe my compression will be 8.9:1 if I use the 84cc heads, and the gasket I got from MR. Gasket, but if I use the 88cc ones then the compression should be 8.64:1.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to jet it that much, but then again Edelbrock does not make any between 600 and 750 in the series I am looking at.

Do you think I can sell the carb and buy the 750 without anything out of pocket?

way to small of a carb for a 440 , you will have to go with the 750 but i would try and sell it on e-bay or something and see what you can get for it , i would even buy a metering / jet kit to do a 750 to get the most out of your engine , it will be better in the long run and the kit has everything to make it perform for you but if you need certain ones and know which ones let me know and ill see if i have it and ill help you out k ... a 750 will be sufficient for you out of the box but if you want it done right i would at least meter it to the engines liking

I just put it on Craigslist for $350 probably should have asked 400, but I didn't put any pictures on there either.

I will let you know, I am still a little ways away from putting a carb on it. I just started to disassemble the old engine to remove from the car, and still have to pull old trans, and look at and decide what to do with the newer 727 trans. Also need to save and buy the heads so possibly month or so, at least. Will also need to repaint the engine as it will get back to me soon from the machine shop.
