have you checked the distributor or the spark plug wires?

welcome to the forum first off!

Have you checked to make sure that you have compression? can you smell/see gas in the carb?

66 - I had a single barrel carb on my 78 d200 with a 318. dodge did make them but I will never understand why.

make sure you have an oil with zinc in it
try to pour some gas down the carb

crank the engine by hand to top dead center, and make sure the distibutor is pointing to the number one cylinder

safest bet with mopars for cams are edelbrock or purple cams
what kind of power are you looking for?
what kind of rear end do you have?

make sure the cam you choose fits the rpm your gonna run in
im not to good with cam statistics, but im sure someone else here is
