66 Fury brake/tail light problems
Ok so ever since I've had my 66 Fury III I've had occasional issues with the brake and tail lights. They usually work normally, and whenever I check them when the car is sitting, they work. But sometimes when I'm driving, someone will tell me that one of the rear lights is out. It's always one light, not both. Most recently, it was the left but sometimes it's the right.
I'd like to fix this myself, but electrical is not my speciality when it comes to working on cars. If anyone has any clues as to what may be the problem I would greatly appreciate it. I just don't really know where to start.

Usually it's just kind of an off and on thing. I've had times where someone would tell me the brake light's out, then when we pull over and check, they work. That's what seems so weird to me. I'll check on the grounds, replace the bulbs and clean out the sockets. I didn't know about the sockets making the ground connection, so I'll definitely look into that.

Sometimes, the taillights are grounded to the body by the screw or screws that hold the actual taillight housing to the car.
The side marker lights on my Fury only have one wire and will not light up unless the actual housing fastener is in contact with clean body metal.

I had the same problem with my Sport Fury. It drove me crazy until I stumbled on the fuse being slightly loose in the fuse block. Cleaned and tightened it up and have had a problem since. Good Luck!

Brake and tail or brake and signal? If brake and signal it could be the turn signal switch. The signal and brake light use the same bulb so when you signal, the brake light contact on that side is opened and sometimes the contact isn't remade when the signal is turned off, so that brake light won't work. Wiggle the signal lever a bit and it works fine. The tilt teli switch on my 66 300 drives me nuts with this.
