Hey,

Thought I'd join the forum seeing as I just bought a 1968 Newport. Its a 4 door sedan, and she definitely needs some work. This will be my first project car and first time getting my hands dirty other than changing wheels or oil. When I test drove it, it seemed pretty cold blooded, but shifted fine and everything. I think the carb needs tuning. Previous owner was saying something about cleaning the points? But im pretty sure these have distributors right? Its the 2bbl model, automatic. Also looks like it leaks a little power steering fluid. Stops real good though haha. Needs a new ignition cylinder as well (Starts by touching wires )

Its getting tailored to my house tomorrow, figured I'd better start doing some research. I saw people talking about the carbs being too big on these cars and to get a 650cfm?

Sorry for all the questions. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks guys

What size engine? big block? 318? I have a ’68 fury, practically a sister car, and I can tell you they are nothing but pure fun. welcome to Mopar!

Also, points are IN the distributor. That's the first mod i recommend, actually: get rid of that and go electronic. one of the best upgrades i did to my Fury.

Probably has a 383. The points are inside of the distributor. If the distributor is at the front of the engine it is a big block 383/440

must mopar guys think it is NOT a bad thing to replace the stock points with the chrysler electronic ignition. it isnt hard to do. but DO get two extra ballast resistors and put them in the glove box. on the first no start just swap the one under the hood out.

2bbl 383 with the 727 torqueflite.

Got delivered today, discovered the door lock cylinders dont work haha..
Anyways, these ran on regular gas, so I have to get a lead additive right?

How much does the electronic ignition cost? Got a link for the best one moe?

Thanks again guys

I would check SummitRacing.com for distributor kit. low dollar go to auto zone and get a dist and ign for a 70's 400 motor
or try your local Pick A Part

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dc.../make/chrysler $225

Thanks for the help guys.

This car has A/C, but I dont think its from the factory? looks like a dealer option maybe. Anyways I heard its rare, seems like it works too but its still cold up here so not sure if its just the cold air from outside.
