Rebuilt carb now ammeter is pegged

New to forum, and recently purchased a 1966 Fury III 4 door. It has a 383 with the Carter AVB 4 Barrel (stock). Yesterday I changed the plugs, plug wires, and ignition coil. Today I rebuilt the carb (first time rebuilding a carb). I am reasonably certain I put everything back together correctly. I also replaced the ballast resistor.

I fired up my ride after rebuild, and she roared to life. She wont stay running, runs rough until I hit the gas, and the ammmeter is pegged to the right. I know its supposed to stay right in the center. What did I do wrong??

Thank you so much for publicly pointing out my mechanical inadequacies. My lack of knowledge regarding nomenclature reflects the fact that I am teaching myself how to work on this car.

I don't think he was trying to point out your inadequacies, I think he was just asking you to clarify your question. What you say is happening sounds like a bad Ballast Resistor possibly. You said you replaced it but check the wiring.

I'm trying to find out what you are talking about. You talking about the ammeter? This may be labled "alternator" and indicates charge rate?

Don't be so dammed sensitive.

What changes, if any did you make to the wiring? Did you cut and remake any connections on the ballast resistor terminals?
