HELP! rear bumper disaster
HELP! rear bumper disaster
i just purchased my first e body.i only have had b bodies in the past.anyhow, its a 73 challenger, freshly restored.the previous owner put a 70 rear bumper on it.as a result there is about a 2.5 in gap between rear bumper and valance.do i have to put a 73 bumper back on it to make it look right?also i should note the valance and rear quarters have been seamed and sealed together,so i cant remove the valance with out cutting it off.if any anyone out there is an authority on what to do i would love to talk to you personally on the phone.i have pics to better show what i have if that helps.seems if i ask 10 people,i get ten answers.any help is appreciated.thanks,

bumper help
im not a pro on challengers but i know on cudas they moved bumpers out &added fillers in 73 ! thanks to government ! lol so we just put the 70-72 bumper brackets on to pull the bumpers in where they were on those cars . or you can find the fllers that were on the 73s
I am also not a pro on Challengers, but I converted my '74 'Cuda from the original bumpers to the '70-style tucked in bumpers. You need the correct bumpers and also the correct brackets to pull them in. Even with these, there is an area at the side of the bumpers where there is a gap between the bumper and the quarter. On the '70 cars, there was a metal tab that stuck out from the quarter behind the bumper and filled this gap. On the later cars, this tab was deleted.
Pictures of your situation would help.

the 70 Chall has a filler plate that bolts to the rear of the car to fill the gap in , AMD may have this part available , you also may need the 70 bumper brackets that pull the bumper in flush with the body , I can PM my Phone # if you want , I am in Panama now though .
This is what goes between the bumpers and the valance panels. There is this strip for the back 2 corner pieces and also the ones up front. I don't know that they sell a replacement for these. Luckily mine was still there.
