The suspensions on these cars are nothing like the cars of now a days so you can't compair them. They are what they are. There are kits out there to improve them though, you just need to look for them.

You can improve things without spending a ton just by changing to polyurothane bushings all around.

Thumbs up These cars handle great

If yours is not you must have some worn components, check tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, upper & lower ball joints etc,,,Again a firm feel steering box will give a firmer steering , poly bushings somepeople like others say it makes to firm of ride. Get some kyb shocks these work great on your car. You dont need to go buy the expensive front end unit like alterkation unless that is what you really want for the overall g-machine thing. The 72 chally is a great handling car with stock quality components.

suspension upgrades

It really depends on what you want to do with the car. I have gone with all new components on a 67 GTX, and it handled like a 67 GTX, above 80mph the aero started to take over and the steering, even with a manual box got very light.

I am in the midst of an XV conversion on a 71 Challenger, that was a slant 6 car. The thing about 40 year old e-bodies is the torsional stiffness of the body wasnt great. If you take off the fenders and look ar the shock to cowl brace it is probably twisted. If you want the car to handle, and plan on putting some torque/hp. make sure you look at a system that addresses the whole package. I bought the XV stuff before Hotchkiss started selling Mopar parts. I would look at both if I were starting over.
I can say the XV body stiffining package is well done. The doors on my car now close like they should..... even with the front end on jack stands the doors close like they should, and e body doors were heavy and known to sag....

If you have door sag

generally its time to replace or rebuild your hinges, very common with a 30-40 year old mopar. If you still have sag I would be looking and frame rails or torsion bar support areas as these also rust and weeken, somewhere you have extreame wear or rust.regards DD
